Surviving a Survivor Casting Call and a Vail Family Adventure Challenge

Before you think you should star on next season’s “Survivor,” let us mention that the schedule of 300 cast auditions set for Vail is already full. But that shouldn’t stop the active family from turning out the weekend of Aug. 17, along with producers from CBS4, for some family-friendly competition at the inaugural Vail Family Adventure Challenge.

To start the adventure, you can watch Saturday, August 17, 2013 as prospective reality TV stars get a chance to record a one-minute video audition for the 27th season of the CBS hit show. Participants are encouraged to get creative and bring props for a chance to be on TV – sounds like fun. According to CBS4 Denver, they are not accepting any walk-up auditions, but they will keep a wait list to cover no-shows if you call Morgan at 303/830-6340.

So what’s Vail doing to create a Family Adventure Challenge?

Saturday from10am to 4pm at Solaris Plaza, parents and kids can join individual and team contests. Family competitions such as the “Water Balloon Toss of Death” and the “Escape from Babagoza” obstacle course are open to all ages. “The Great American Apple Stack Challenge,” “Hula Hoopalooza” and the gummy worm-eating contest are just a few of the individual activities going on the same day.

On Sunday, August 18, visitors can take it down a notch at the fun Vail Famers’ Market and Art Show where more than 130 vendors will keep everyone busy sampling. It’s also the free time day to hop the gondola up to 10,000 feet and try hiking, biking and exploring Adventure Ridge. With a trampoline, guided hikes, horseback riding and more, Adventure Ridge is open 10am to 9pm Friday and Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Stay longer and try many of the recreational opportunities that overtake Vail Valley in summer, or stick around for August’s many festivals. Celebrating its 25th year, the Vail International Dance Festival runs through Aug. 10. From Aug. 8-11, kids ages 6 through 14 have the opportunity to experience the thrill of adventure racing through Vail and the surrounding wilderness during the 4th Annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race .

But if you’re a Survivor, check out the value weekend lodging rates for the Survivor Casting Call/Vail Family Adventure Challenge period, which begin at $129 per room per night.  For more information on a Vail summer vacation, please visit Vail.com.
