STA Travel confirmed that Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, tops the list for the least expensive destination, based on the main ingredients for a good holiday - a pint of beer, a meal in a local restaurant, a night in a hostel, a bus ride and a sight-seeing bus tour around the city.
The top 8 cheap destinations are as follows:
1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: $19.76
2. Hanoi, Vietnam: $27.60
3. Seoul, South Korea: $27.74
4. Mexico City, Mexico: $34.47
5. Beijing, China: $37.46
6. Istanbul, Turkey: $41.32
7. Bangkok, Thailand: $41.35
8. Cape Town, South Africa: $47.81
According to STA Travel, as most of the world is still recovering from a global recession and consumers are counting their pennies more than ever, it's unfortunate that some of the popular holiday destinations are set to be even more expensive this summer than last. Hence, STA Travel has scoured the globe and quizzed both travelers and travel consultants to find the best value for money destinations around the world.
Malaysia is recognized as being a destination where visitors can get a big bang for their buck. "Asia has always been a good bet, and clearly still holds up,” said John Constable, Group Managing Director at STA Travel.
Malaysia was also ranked fourth among the world’s best-value destinations, according to the largest travel guide firm, Lonely Planet. The British-based company, in its ‘Best In Travel 2010’ guide, said Malaysia “is a clever choice for travelers on the lookout for a bargain.”
