For the most authentic Oktoberfest celebration outside of Munich, saddle up and head on over to Addison, Texas for German bier, grub, and polka with a Texan twang.  Now in it’s 26th year, the annual Addison Oktoberfest on September 19th through the 22nd will satisfy fans of this Bavarian festival with its commitment to authenticity.  And for families trying to plan a neat fall getaway, Addison's Oktoberfest brings together fun and affordability with this four-day event.

Although “Oktober”-fest may seem like a misnomer, Director of Special Events, Barabra Kovacevich explains that Addison’s event is timed accordingly. “We schedule Addison Oktoberfest to coincide with the opening of the world renowned Oktoberfest in Munich,” Kovacevich states. “And we work to make it as authentic as possible.”

The Addison Oktoberfest is all about “authentic”, as it plays host to the Munich Evergreens, a polka band all the way from Germany, to headline their entertainment line-up.  Other polka powerhouses are scheduled to perform include Grammy-award winning polka legends Brave Combo who will take to Addison’s Main Stage alongside other live performers. There’s also special entertainment planned for children, parents, and grandparents featured at the Das Kinder Stage (The Children’s Stage).  Enjoy family-friendly entertainment ranging from traditional dance-performances to magic shows!

There are plenty of other unique events to enjoy including Addison’s own 5K/1N Run for the Children, the Official Tapping of the Keg, Bier Barrel Rolling and Bier Barrel Bowling, and the chance for guests to participate in the “German Idol” Yodeling Competition or the German Spelling Bee! And for you dog-lovers out there, be sure to visit Addison on Sunday when “wiener dogs” rule the grounds with the Dachshund Parade and the Dachshund Dash; if you’re won over by these hot dogs, be sure to check out the Dachshund Adoption table located next to the main stage.

Of course bier is the highlight of this Oktoberfest celebration, but there’s a whole selection of other food and beverage items for guests to sample as well. From sausages to saurkraut, to kuchen and kaffee, there’s plenty of ways to sample Bavarian cuisine. Travelers should note that the fest runs on a coupon system, so be sure to buy plenty at the Main Ticket Tent or the Biergarten Ticket Tent!
