Belfast Ireland for Music Lovers & Family Vacationers

While Belfast, belle of northern Ireland, may not come to mind at the top of everyone's travel list, in fact the city has a myriad of family attractions. Author David Wilkening covered it a few years ago for FamilyTravelForum.com:  noting the many literary landmarks as well as fun museums, gardens and other activities.

This September, the city staged its first ever Belfast Music Week, September 12–19, 2010. Organized by the Belfast City Council, Belfast Music Week showcased both new and existing bands, songwriters and DJs, across all musical genres. Appealing to a largely young local crowd, in addition to thousands of visiting Europeans, the festival hosted more than 100 gigs, featuring the very best in local talent.

Concerts were staged at some 30 or so venues across the city of Belfast. The week's highlights included a Saturday night showcase concert, presented in association with MTV featuring five of Northern Ireland's hottest talents, live performances by dozens of other top local bands, and three album launches.

The week culminated with the free 'MTV Presents…' concert, featuring Mark Ronson , at the Belfast Waterfront on Sunday 19 September. Available video includes general views of some performances at the Belfast Music Week.  Here are some clips from the festival, which should inspire your teens to put northern Ireland on their list for next year.
