Racing Stunt Planes - Great Family Weekend for NYC - Jersey Metro Area

Eyes to the skies!  The Red Bull Air Race New York will be soaring over Jersey City’s Liberty State Park this Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20. What???

The caffeine-fueled beverage has sponsored some of the world's best pilots to race lightweight, specially crafted prop planes against the clock through a low-level track made up of air-filled pylons.

Onlookers will experience an adrenaline rush as professional pilots of high-performance aerobatic planes navigate this inflated obstacle course in-air, hovering a mere 60 feet above the Hudson River’s surface at speeds topping 230 mph -- and withstanding forces of up to 12G.

At the Jersey City race, the top nine places earn World Championship points and the air racer with the most points at the end of the race season in September earns the title of Red Bull Air Race World Champion.

Jersey City is one of nine race locations this year that include Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and Perth, Australia.

The host hotel, serving up a barful of new Red Bull Mixers, is The Westin Jersey City Newport. Nice place to get away for a thrilling staycation with the kids!

The crowds will be let into Liberty State Park to see the race at 10am, and the race itself starts at 1pm so bring some lawn chairs or blankets. Admission is $35 on June 19 and $45 on June 20. (Tickets to view the race in VIP areas go as high as $1,250.)

You can find out more details and event information at Red Bull Air Race.
