The Lion King Does Free Family Performance in Los Angeles

We've just learned that cast members from Disney's "The Lion King" (at Mandalay Bay) will be performing in Los Angeles at The Grove outdoor shopping and entertainment district during a free event on Friday, July 9 at 5pm and 7pm.

Grab the kids and join the cast as they celebrate "The Lion King Day" at The Grove, performing iconic songs from the Broadway phenomenon such as "Circle of Life," "Shadowland," "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Endless Night" alongside the FAME Church Choir, Los Angeles.

Performers will include Kissy Simmons, who joined the Las Vegas company after appearing as "Nala" on Broadway; Buyi Zama, a native of South Africa, who has performed as "Rafiki" in seven productions of The Lion King around the world; and Jelani Remy as "Simba," previously seen in the theatrical touring production of High School Musical.

As part of the celebration, guests can also join in the festivities by creating their own Lion King-themed mask made from recycled products in a workshop hosted by Ann Closs-Farley Designs from 3-7pm.

According to all accounts, the Las Vegas production of The Lion King at the Mandalay Bay Hotel is virtually identical to the other companies seen around the globe so this should be a great event. For additional information about it on your next Vegas jaunt, visit their site LionKingLasVegas.com

And if  you don't know about Los Angelenos' favorite staycation, The Grove is one of the city's most popular shopping, dining and entertainment destinations, and it's right near the Farmers Market in Fairfax. There's a lot to see there for little toddlers, older kids, and fashionista tweens. The great play areas will occupy you all day, and when you need a break, there is a variety of good indoor and outdoor restaurants.
