While Belfast, belle of northern Ireland, may not come to mind at the top of everyone's travel list, in fact the city has a myriad of family attractions. Author David Wilkening covered it a few years ago for FamilyTravelForum.com: noting the many literary landmarks as well as fun museums, gardens and other activities.
This September, the city staged its first ever Belfast Music Week, September 12–19, 2010. Organized by the Belfast City Council, Belfast Music Week showcased both new and existing bands, songwriters and DJs, across all musical genres. Appealing to a largely young local crowd, in addition to thousands of visiting Europeans, the festival hosted more than 100 gigs, featuring the very best in local talent.
Concerts were staged at some 30 or so venues across the city of Belfast. The week's highlights included a Saturday night showcase concert, presented in association with MTV featuring five of Northern Ireland's hottest talents, live performances by dozens of other top local bands, and three album launches.
The week culminated with the free 'MTV Presents…' concert, featuring Mark Ronson , at the Belfast Waterfront on Sunday 19 September. Available video includes general views of some performances at the Belfast Music Week. Here are some clips from the festival, which should inspire your teens to put northern Ireland on their list for next year.

Stockholm Sports Arena Debuts the Wildest Sky Ride Ever!
Anyone dropping by the city of Stockholm, Sweden, one of Europe's most family friendly places (as you can tell from FTF's guide to Stockholm Family Attractions), has a new must-see attraction. Or, should we say must-ride?
The spherical Globen Arena, long home to Stockholm's famous hockey team, has just found a way to encircle itself in a very unusual fashion. When asked about ways that visitors could enjoy the enormous sphere's place in this beautiful city, the Globen's architectural team debated about installing interior elevators or an exterior tower to transport visitors through its unusual spaces. In the end, they decided to construct a curved funicular on the exterior of the building, with tracks that follow the sphere's arc to its roofline.
The tracks support two ball-shaped glass gondolas that travel up the side of the arena, also known as the Ericsson Globe. They pass each other slowly on the 130 meter ride to offer visitors the best possible views of the Stockholm skyline. Known as SkyView, this video makes it seem like quite a ride.

Calling all families! Royal Caribbean International and USA TODAY announced today a search for America's best and brightest family to cover the unveiling of Allure of the Seas, which will share the title of the world's largest and most revolutionary cruise ship along with sister ship, Oasis of the Seas. Today through October 29, 2010, families are invited to enter to win the coveted role of field correspondents alongside USA TODAY'S own cruise editor, Gene Sloan. Once onboard the ship, the lucky winning family of up to six will receive behind-the-scenes access to file reports that will appear at USA TODAY's Cruise Log about one of the most buzzed-about hospitality and entertainment stories of the year.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition will open at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center on October 9 and run through January 5, 2011. Based on the blockbuster film series and C.S. Lewis' beloved fictional books, the 10,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art entertainment and educational experience offers visitors the opportunity to tour scenes from the famed literary world of Narnia. Through authentic costumes, props and set dressings from the magical Narnia films, visitors will enter a three dimensional world that combines the wonders of science with aspects of fantasy.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition is presented by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media and is produced by Exhibitgroup/Giltspur. Tickets will go on sale soon at www.spacecampstore.com.
"This exhibition is a truly captivating and entertaining experience for all ages," said Eddie Newquist, president of branded entertainment, Exhibitgroup/Giltspur. "From the scene displays and props seen in the Narnia films, to the scientific and educational aspects of the exhibition that stimulate the senses and the mind, guests will be transported into another world to experience Narnia like never before."
Visitors to the exhibition will view artifacts from C.S. Lewis' personal study and experience exciting environments such as the famous attic and wardrobe. Once inside Narnia, visitors will encounter falling snow and other interactive and instructive elements including:
A replica of the White Witch's Throne where visitors can sit on the icy throne and feel the chill. A nearby display describes the impact of climate change on our planet and investigates whether our planet could be frozen for 100 years, like the world of Narnia.
An area featuring King Miraz's Castle from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian where visitors have the opportunity to build an arch, while learning about the architectural structure and strategy involved in the design.

Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights XX: A New Age of Darkness Begins
There is more to paralyzing fear than a scream in the darkness or a cool breath on the back of the neck. Or the grip of the undead.
Fear that truly consumes us comes from deep inside our souls, stirred by something we don’t always understand and rarely have the chance to confront. Until now.
Halloween Horror Nights XX is about Fear himself. He is the Master of everything Halloween Horror Nights has ever been and will become. His weapons: Chaos, Death, Sacrifice, Mythos, Vengeance. His pawns: a clown, a storyteller, a caretaker, a director, an usher…and you.
For 24 nights beginning September 24 and running through October 31, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort will reveal Fear as he has never been seen or experienced before. Fear and what he has created have horrified people for 19 years. And this year, he will be more real than ever.
“Everything we have done for the past 19 years, everything we have learned, leads to this moment,” said Jim Timon, senior vice president of entertainment for Universal Orlando Resort. “This year’s Halloween Horror Nights is not about the past. It is about the future.”
Halloween Horror Nights XX is not an anniversary event. There may be glimpses of the familiar, but those glimpses may not look the same as guests remember. And the familiar will quickly give way to the new.
This year, Halloween Horror Nights will feature eight all-new haunted houses, new scarezones and live shows. And everything Fear touches will never be the same.
Halloween Horror Nights runs September 24-25, September 30-October 1-3, 7-10, 14-17, 20-24 and 27-31. Advance tickets are now on sale for $74.99 plus tax. For tickets and event information, visit www.HalloweenHorrorNights.com. Due to the event’s popularity, tickets for weekend nights are expected to sell out and should be purchased well in advance.

Spirits and Spooks: Haunted Places in the Finger Lakes
There are more than a few haunted spots within New York’s Finger Lakes region. Luckily for amateur and serious ghost hunters alike, there is a long list of places where curious visitors can investigate otherworldly tales for themselves.
Those wishing to catch a glimpse of the supernatural can start by choosing a haunted place to stay. The Belhurst Castle, built in the 1880s, has a long and dramatic history. One of its many tales is the story of an Italian opera singer who fled Spain with her illicit lover. When her angry husband came to find her, the couple escaped to an underground tunnel. However, their plan backfired when the tunnel collapsed around them and they were killed. Today, guests have reported seeing an apparition of a woman standing in the front lawn and around the grounds who is believed to be the opera singer.
Another mysterious lady in white can be seen at Esperanza Mansion, located right on scenic Keuka Lake. While nobody is quite sure who she is or why she haunts the mansion, Esperanza’s long history is impressive. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was once a stop on the Underground Railroad.
Since the Finger Lakes is home to over 100 wineries, it is no surprise that there are rumors of winery hauntings, as well. Miles Wine Cellar is located in a Greek revival mansion that overlooks Seneca Lake. The home was originally built in 1802, and there is little doubt that today it is inhabited by more than the Rieslings that the Finger Lakes is known for. Strange happenings such as slamming doors, footsteps, and unexplained sounds have manifested on the property for years. To celebrate these otherworldly residents, Miles Wine Cellar now produces a “Ghost” wine, a Chardonnay and Cayuga blend.
There are also many museums and historic sites said to contain spirit life. In Seneca Falls, the birthplace of women’s rights, the Seneca Falls Historical Society is believed to be haunted by no fewer than three ghosts. Three different families lived in the mansion between 1855 and 1961, when it was purchased by the historical society. The first ghost is believed to be the spirit of Edward Mynderse, who began haunting the home he built after its next owner made major changes to its exterior. In 1890, the newly-renovated house was sold to the Becker family, who raised six children there. The second ghost is said to be the spirit of an Irish girl who died while staying with the Beckers. To this day, she can be heard crying on the back staircase, wishing to return home to her native Ireland. The third ghost, Mary Merrigan, was the children’s nanny. Her presence can still be felt in her old third-floor quarters.
Valentown Museum, a historic museum in Victor, has thousands of artifacts- and at least a few ghosts. Valentown’s original structure has remained virtually unchanged since the 1870s, and staff members have reported strange occurrences throughout the museum. Visitors hoping to spot some paranormal activity are invited to take one of several specialized ghost tours of the property. From children’s birthday parties to ghost walks to seminars on paranormal investigation, Valentown offers an array of ghostly experiences for almost every age group.
A few hours away, in the charming city of Cortland, the 1890 House Museum also preserves life in the Victorian era. This architecturally significant property was the home of industrialist Chester F. Wickwire, and today is open as a museum commemorating the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Over the years, visitors and Cortland residents have claimed feeling strange vibes and seeing mysterious figures in and around the property.
Though most tourists don’t stay as long as these ghostly visitors, the Finger Lakes is a popular place to visit thanks to its rich history, nature, and world-class wineries.
